Last night we went to a Great Gatsby themed party at the Victoria Room. We had a great time - excellent people watching. And with gimlets and champagne all night, who can complain? ;)

Gatsby hair dry run (very quick - no heat, no hair products, no makeup), and sparkly nail polish.

Fifties Fair

Yesterday we went with Alison and Jon to the Historic Houses Trust Fifties Fair at Rose Seidler House.  Architect Harry Seidler, considered by some to be "the father of Australian modernism," designed the house for his parents, Rose and Max Seidler, and it was completed in 1950.

We dressed up and had a good time, despite the intermittent rain showers and mud.

Sydney Tweed Ride

On Sunday, Matthew and I participated in the 3rd annual Sydney Tweed Ride, where cyclists dress up in dapper attire for a leisurely bike ride round the city. The ride itself was about 8K. Including getting to the starting point (Town Hall) and back home from the endpoint (Moore Park), we cycled about 13K in total. (And then went ice skating with friends later that evening - one of my most active days in ages!)

Ziggy Show

Last night we went to Ziggy, a David Bowie tribute show with a live band and four different performers singing Bowie songs. It was a lot of fun! Their renditions of Under Pressure and Fame were especially good. I can't decide which was my favorite Bowie - they all put a different spin on it.

The State Theatre, which was very pretty inside, were serious about no photos allowed, so I don't have any pics from the show. However, I got dressed up for the event, so here's a pic of my outfit!

Hats in Oz

I've had hats/sun protection on my mind recently, as the sun is quite strong here, and hats are a real necessity. Here's a photo of Hugh Jackman from the movie "Australia" wearing an Akubra hat.

I've been keeping my eye out for a stylish wide-brimmed ladies' hat, maybe even with a chin strap so it won't get blown off at the beach. However, I don't know if one exists, they generally look pretty dorky!

By the way, our friend Mark told us that hats were part of the required uniform at his son's primary school. One day Nico forgot his hat, and he was not allowed to go outside to play during recess. Instead, he had to go sit in the "Responsible Thinking Room!"
